New Blog Who Dis?

Hey everybody, it’s been a while.

My last post was what, over two years ago?

Two years denying you of precious content. That’s quite a gap in the resume.

Well, it’s a new site, and maybe a new era for anyone closely following the Lynkoverse. Let’s get caught up.

New Website?

Heck yeah. It was well overdue. I had been using WordPress for a long time now, and I can’t say I enjoyed the experience. The platform that everyone seemingly knows and loves is slow, sluggish, and prone to issues. Anything you want to do requires a subscription to a plugin, and drama at home with Automattic’s CEO portrays a continued path towards enshittification. Jetpack, one of Automattic’s own plugins, stopped supporting and depreciated webcomic post types, and while there are people out there making webcomic plugins to fill in the gap, WordPress just doesn’t deserve the honor of me using it.

Now, I’m on Ghost, a simple node.js cms that’s open source. It’s just old enough for me to feel it has maturity, and although it’s simple, it’s going to do everything I need and do it better and hopefully longer than WordPress would have.

I think this also means I’ll be updating much more frequently.

I Got Into Dungeons & Dragons

It was inevitable. I’ve always been destined to roll the math rocks. Heck, I’ve been carrying around a D20 in my pocket for over 25 years just waiting for the opportunity. My good buddy Sean has been begging me to run a campaign, but it wasn’t until my girlfriend (who has been playing D&D for a while now) bought me a professionally ran one-shot for my birthday a couple years ago. It’s now a birthday tradition, and I’m in a long term campaign with Sean, my brother, and God Quad. Plus I’m GMing two adjacent Cosmere RPG campaigns.

I’m just sad I waited until my forties to get into this; it has been a blast.

I Picked Up the Ukulele

Because why not? It's no accordion, but they are small and travel well, and it only took me a couple of nights to learn how to play it.

You All Forced Me to Become a Puppetmaker

I posted something on Facebook a couple years ago how the world is going to force my hand to become a puppeteer. Then I watched the Jim Henson documentary. Then I ordered a bunch of foam, fake fur, felt, and ping pong balls.

And a sewing machine. And a sewing kit. And industrial spray adhesive. And a dremel. And wire rods.

Next, I created life.

A scary pink puppet made mostly out of hot glue and mistakes.
This is my first attempt, Homunculi.

Then I created a party game around building puppets and roleplaying and ran that with some friends.

I Got Super Into Emulation Handhelds

This isn’t exactly new, I’ve been building Raspberry Pi consoles and similar projects for a while. The last few years though I’ve built, bought, and modded an embarrassing number of Linux handhelds and a few high-end Android ones. I’m now mostly settled on the AYN Thor, but I usually carry a couple of them on my person wherever I am. I’ll do a full post on that soon.

How is Kelsier Doing?

Ah, the most important question.

Kelsier has been to space. Well, at least our selfies have.

He’s the best. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost eight years with the dude.
